Ever since connecting with Deadheads twice in queues at Disney in Orlando in 2022 I've made a point of wearing either a Dead T-shirt and/or my Steelie cap, when possible, in the USA.
On this trip (Oregon and Washington, 25 days, 2280 miles) there were 4 encounters:
- young chap serving in the gift shop at asked if I was going to see Dead & Co at the Sphere in Vegas. Explained that I was only over for 3 weeks and couldn't fit it in
- a 'nice hat' from a guy I passed on the steps up from the quayside in Seattle
- woman at breakfast in Paradise Inn, Mt Rainier was wearing a Dead & Co hoodie from the Las Vegas show so I asked her how it had been. (Answer: "mind blowing")
- a deadhead wearing a tie-dye got into the same lift in Seattle and wanted to trade hats with me!
- a smile and twinkle in the eye from a stall holder at Portland Saturday market
- A "he's my hero too" from the owner of the head shop in Long Beach, Washington, who had many Jerry portraits on her wall
