Onering Tours, Twizel, New Zealand

During the half-day tour you get to see the location for the filming of The Battle of Pelennor Fields in the final film of The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

We hadn't originally planned to do this, but we our route around South Island passed through Twizel and it seemed like a cool thing to do.

It was brilliant! This is a small-group tour lead by one-woman-band Dawn, who was so enthusiastic and full of anecdotes about the filming. She was an extra herself on the last Hobbit film, so knows something about filming on location. There were just 4 on our tour and the others weren't so bothered about getting into the spirit of the place but I had a great time.

My only proviso was when we dressed up to reenact the killing of the Lord of the Nazgul by Eowyn ...why does C look to pleased with herself in every shot?!
