Schoolboy error...

I like to take care of my black Sprayway Goretex cagoule. It has seen me through many wet walks over several years only comes out when needed. Last autumn got a proper wash and re-proofing in readiness for our big trip.

C, on the other hand, has been using hers as an everyday coat, even when there's no cloud in the sky, for months. I've been telling her off about it. Her response was to buy a new one.

We had 3 weeks of perfect weather. Then, first day at Aoraki Mt Cook National Park, instead of seeing the highest mountain in NZ we see... nothing. Rain with low cloud and no mountain tops anywhere. But that's not going to stop us; we have waterproofs: overtrousers and cagoules.

But the black cagoule I pull out of my suitcase and struggle into seems a little small. Yep, I've somehow packed C's old one.

It keeps the rain out for about 40 minutes then, predictably, gives up. (Fortunately it was fine the next day, and we got great views.)

Won't make that mistake again. She can jolly well buy pink in future.
